Olympus introduced the first devices in the new Powerseal series of advanced bipolar surgical energy products.

The Powerseal 5mm curved mandibular tissue sealer and divider, and double-acting device provide consistent sealing reliability through an ergonomic multifunctional design, thereby improving procedure efficiency and meeting the highest standards of clinical performance of advanced bipolar surgical energy equipment.

With the release of the Powerseal device, Olympus has introduced a series of bipolar surgical energy devices to enhance a broad and differentiated surgical energy product portfolio, including the unique Thunderbeat hybrid energy device and Sonicbeat ultrasonic dissector. The Powerseal device makes Olympus competitive in the growing global market for advanced bipolar surgical energy devices, currently estimated at more than $1.2 billion.

The Powerseal device provides the surgeon with the most advanced sealing, dissection, and grasping capabilities, while greatly reducing the force required for the surgeon to close the jaw during laparoscopic or open surgery. Powerseal devices can be used in many forms of surgical procedures, including general surgery and gynecology, colorectal, weight loss, urology, thoracic and vascular surgery.

The Powerseal device is a disposable device designed to optimize the patient's treatment effect. Its features include:

Justin A. Maykel, MD, Director of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UMass Memorial Health, said: “Preliminary clinical experience has shown that the new 5mm POWERSEAL device can provide uniform tissue compression to achieve a consistently strong seal. The product design makes the device intuitive and intuitive. Safe to use."

Phil Roy, Global Vice President and General Manager of Surgical Instruments, Olympus Therapeutic Solutions Division, said: "We are delighted to be able to expand our surgical energy product portfolio with state-of-the-art advanced bipolar energy solutions that are specifically designed for surgeons. Demand-based design and clinical results are the main driving factors. The core requirement for the development of these POWERSEAL devices is zero compromise in meeting our strength, efficiency, and physician comfort goals. Tests have shown that we have exceeded the key indicators of surgical energy device performance Our goals, such as sealing speed, reliability and thermal characteristics, while providing an excellent user experience."

The Olympus Energy platform is composed of ESG-400 and USG-400 electrosurgical generators. It provides hospitals with a complete energy solution for any operating room, and powers the entire series of Olympus Energy systems: unipolar, bipolar (HiQ, HICURA, PK and Everest equipment), ultrasonic (Sonicbeat equipment), hybrid energy (Thunderbeat equipment) and advanced bipolar (Powerseal equipment). By operating from one energy platform, hospitals can reduce capital expenditures while meeting the other goals of the quadruple goals, using a series of surgical energy technologies specifically designed for patients and doctors.

The difference between advanced bipolar energy devices and traditional bipolar energy devices is more efficient energy delivery, intuitive tissue monitoring, and uniform pressure applied by the device jaws to the tissue. These attributes enable advanced bipolar technology to provide a more consistent and larger (7 mm) vessel seal than standard bipolar technology.

Powerseal equipment is currently approved by regulatory authorities for sale in the United States, Puerto Rico and Australia, and is actively being reviewed in other markets.
