LivsMed Inc.'s ArtiSential™ articulated bipolar energy instrument is used for electrosurgical cutting and coagulation, and has received FDA 510(k) approval. The ArtiSential™ device has a patented dual-joint end effector that enables surgeons to overcome the challenges of difficult access angles, especially in complex operations.

San Diego, June 30, 2020/PRNewswire/- LivsMed Inc. recently announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the new ArtiSential™ bipolar Maryland dissector. This completes its energy product line, which also includes bipolar perforated tweezers, unipolar hooks and unipolar spatulas.

The ArtiSential™ instrument has a dual-joint end effector and an ergonomic handle that promotes wrist movement and provides 7 degrees of freedom. These functions are integrated into low-cost all-mechanical instruments, allowing surgeons to obtain the same advantages as robotic platforms, while also providing tactile feedback that robotic systems lack. The ArtiSential™ device can be used with any trocar of 8 mm or larger, and can be instantly integrated into any surgical environment without the need for additional capital equipment or taking up a lot of space in the operating room.

Karl Im, President of LivsMed USA Inc. said: "We are pleased to provide a complete set of wrist-mounted instruments that have been available only through robotics so far. ArtiSential™ is attracting the interest of institutions and surgeons who are looking for alternatives to robotic surgery. We have completely changed the traditional laparoscopic examination by introducing the dexterity of the robotic system into the laparoscopic instruments without losing tactile feedback,” Im said. The ArtiSential™ energy instrument joins LivsMed's existing product line, which includes needle holders, clip appliers, non-energy perforated forceps and Maryland dissectors. These instruments are available in three different lengths (25 cm, 38 cm and 45 cm), and optionally have a locking mechanism to fix the articulated joints. Dr. Joel Dunning, a thoracic surgeon from the UK, concluded: “We want to mimic our hands physically, and ArtiSential™ does this.”

Dr. Jung Joo Lee, Founder and CEO of LivsMed Inc. said: “We are very happy that Dr. Dunning has become a great spokesperson for ArtiSential™. Now, as more and more surgeons in the United States experience ArtiSential™, we are moving forward to complete our Mission' put precision surgery in the hands of surgeons, one patient at a time. 2018. Today, we have a surgeon who has completed more than 1,000 cases using ArtiSential™ equipment, and he said he “can’t go back to using linear instruments”. We Plans to continue to innovate and support the largest U.S. market in the world."
